Evelyn Erving Scholarship

The Evelyn Erving Scholarship was founded in 1999 in memory of Evelyn Erving, mother of Maggie Dennis, Artistic Director of The Dance Extension. Mrs. Erving was a professional dancer and teacher who established the Evelyn Erving School of Dance in northern New York where she taught for 36 years. She resided in Waterford until her death in December of 1998.

The scholarship is awarded biennially to a student who shows dedication to the art of dance and interest in a career in education or working with children.  The recipient receives a full tuition scholarship to The Dance Extension for the academic year.

Miss Lila Award

This scholarship was established in 2000 in honor of the retirement of Lila Nicholson, a dance educator who taught at The Dance Extension for almost 20 years. It is awarded biennially to a young student who displays outstanding enthusiasm and dedication to dance. The recipient receives a tuition scholarship for one class at The Dance Extension for the academic year. Recipients are announced during the The Dance Extension’s biennial performance.

Dancer of the Year

Awared recipients are selected annually by the faculty of The Dance Extension for their outstanding dedication to the art of dance. The Teen Dancer of the Year receives a full scholarship to the Tremaine Dance Convention in New York City.  The Adult Dancer of the Year receives a gift certificate to Discount Dance Supply.
